Surgical Procedure

Periodontal disease can lead to serial problems that may require surgical procedures to correct them. Other periodontal issues such as low gum ridge can be corrected through surgical perio procedures.

Our in-house periodontal specialist is highly trained and very skilled in helping correct any periodontal issue.

Gum Graft
Often gum tissue around the necks of the teeth recede due to periodontal disease, genetically thin tissue, or aggressive oral hygiene. As a result of recession, tooth roots often become sensitive to cold. We can perform a variety of periodontal tissue augmentation procedures which can cover sensitive or unesthetic root exposures. In addition to improving esthetics, tissue grafting procedures provide a thicker band of tissue around the necks of treated teeth which improves long-term prognosis.

Flap Surgery
When deep pockets between teeth and gums (6 millimeter or greater) are present, it is difficult for the dentist to thoroughly remove the plaque and tartar. If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planning, periodontal surgery may be needed. With surgery, the dentist can access hard to reach areas that require the removal of tartar and plaque. The tooth root is cleaned and smoothed. Sometimes the bone around the tooth also is smoothed to help remove these pockets. The gums then are sutured back into place or into a new position that will be easier to keep clean at home.

Ridge Augmen

When a tooth is lost, the gums usually do not heal back to the original position and back to their original form when the tooth was there. This leaves a ridge behind and creates the ‘gap’ between the new cosmetic teeth and your gumline. Ridge Augmentation corrects and fills this ridge with tissues taken from the patients own mouth.

Frenectomy
Sometimes patient have an excess amount of tissue that connects the lower and upper lips to the jaw/gumline.

A Frenectomy procedure is done to remove excess tissue and give the patient back the correct amount of tissue that should be there.
